Before this website came about I was selling ebooks from a website. The idea was simple: automate sales of my ebooks and build an “autopilot income” from it. I even wrote my own ebook. It was about how to become a stuntman! I joined the British Equity Stunt Register in 2002 and thought sharing my journey would make for a good book! However I struggled to sell any of my ebooks even though I spent some time writing the book and building the sales page for it. The main problem was something I didn’t know about: marketing.
I found a course which taught me how to make money online. My thinking was that I would learn how to drive website traffic to my ebook. However, what I learned led me to another business model; one called affiliate marketing. With affiliate marketing you can sell pretty much anything online. You can sell ebooks, courses, trainings and physical goods without personally owning them.
So I abandoned my ebook idea and instead learned how to sell a course. My ebook was on sale for $10 and even though I could earn 100% from a sale, by selling affiliate courses worth $100 I could earn 40% commission: four times that of what I could earn selling my own ebook! Plus, the courses were more in demand than my book. This was to be the beginning of a long journey!
Selling Ebooks From A Website
I still like the idea of selling ebooks from a website. The idea is simple. You build an automated online “vending machine” of sorts. The ebook is a perfect example of an autopilot money making machine. It can be bought and downloaded instantly and without anyone actually being there to oversee the transaction. These kinds of transactions happen thousands of times daily online and many of them are made by affiliate marketers.
You don’t need to go to the trouble of writing your own ebook either, and in a way doing so might be a waste of time. There’s already ebooks, physical products, courses and trainings which are worth far more to sell than another ebook is. It’s far better to align yourself with one of the top paying products online as an affiliate and promote that.
The best products are already selling, whereas a new ebook is yet to be proven. So writing an ebook of your own comes with a certain risk. You risk losing the time it takes in writing plus also the possibility that it might not sell. Even if it sells you’ll need to learn the strategies of selling online; marketing.

Yes marketing is the all important ingredient. Setting up a “selling website” is the easy part. But once you have a monetised website, your job isn’t over. You won’t make any sales unless people actually visit your website and buy. This is the more difficult part of making an income online. There’s all kinds of courses offering to set you up for a monetised site. But once setup you still need to drive traffic to it, otherwise you don’t get paid!
Driving traffic to a website can be fairly straight forward but there’s a lot you can get wrong too. For example, you need to start out knowing who you want to send to your product. Not all traffic is equal. You want targeted website traffic, not casual online browsers who aren’t going to buy! To know your target audience is the first step towards finding them.
Paid Vs Organic Marketing
Paid marketing is fast. With paid marketing you can reliably send target traffic to a website almost instantly. But it does cost you some cash! So at first you’ll need to test and measure different audiences and adverts until you find a campaign which works. This can take some time and of course marketing budget too. The good news is that once you have a campaign which works, you can scale up quickly by adding budget and driving more and more traffic to your “automated online vending machine”.
With organic marketing your traffic is free. The bad news is you’ll need to work pretty hard creating a lot of content to rive free traffic. Plus, you can’t scale up like with paid marketing. You’re not as in control of the flow of traffic with organic content and one day you might get a lot of traffic, the next day it might be only a trickle, or nothing! The good news about organic marketing is that it’s free! So it’s worth sticking with an organic marketing strategy for some time to see the benefits of this strategy.

For a website to work properly you’ll need to carefully align your website traffic with a solid product which sells. Before you start looking at products from Clickbank to sell you first need to think about how you’re going to get traffic to your website. There’s two main ways to attract traffic. Platforms such as Google Ads, Microsoft Ads, Facebook, YouTube etc. offer a means to instantly send traffic to your website. So choose a topic you have an interest in or some knowledge about. That way, it’s more interesting and much easier to write about your topic. Once you’ve chosen your topic, head over to Clickbank and choose a product which aligns with your topic of interest.
Although you can sell an affiliate product without buying it personally, I would recommend getting to know your product well. Take some time deciding which product to put on your website and really do your research. When you know your product, you can also write a product review as one of your blog posts. Autopilot Clickbank Affiliate Website – Defining Your Target Audience
What is your target audience? The internet is amass with millions of people doing searches for everything and anything. If you spend time creating content which attracts the wrong kinds of visitor, you’ll likely waste a considerable amount of time building content. For example, creating article titles with the term “free” in it will attract freebie seekers.
You want to attract buying customers to your site, so that a larger proportion of them are more likely to buy your Clickbank product. To define your target audience it’s worth doing some work in understanding your customer avatar. See also customer avatar worksheet pdf.
Your customer avatar is the type of person who would be most likely to benefit from (and buy) your Clickbank product. You can also use Google’s keyword tool to find keywords which relate to your product. Simply type your product name into the planner and look for long tail keyword derivatives. By finding longer tail keywords with low SEO difficulty, you’re more likely to rank for them and get found on the Google search tool.
Autopilot Clickbank Affiliate Website – Building A Niche Website
This strategy used to be much more prevalent than it is today but even so it still works wonders for getting free traffic to your website if you do it right. As you look for keywords in Google’s keyword planner you will see certain long tail keywords which marry up nicely with your product/topic. Find one which has low competition when you do a Google search for it.
With a low competition keyword the number at the top of the search bar is much lower than average. Checkout the number I found for this article title, for example:
Once you find a good keyword which suits your product and has low competition on the Google search results, buy a domain name which has your keyword in it. Build out your site creating content you find using the keyword planner. It used to be you could throw up a website with only a few pages and it would rank on Google. Nowadays, it’s much more difficult and you’ll need to write some quality content on your site to be in with a chance of getting your website ranked.
Getting Traffic
Getting traffic for free isn’t easy but if you’ve chosen a topic you love, you should enjoy the process much more than if you chose a niche that you don’t care about. Keep creating content on your site and use an SEO tool which will help you target keywords in your articles. Learn about SEO (search engine optimisation) and keep going. Sometimes a new site won’t rank for some time on Google, but you should see it ranking on other search engines earlier, such as Duckduckgo, Bing, Yahoo, etc.
You can also get an email autoresponder and give away something to your visitors, such as an ebook or free report. This is a great way to sell Clickbank products because you’ll be able to create an email list of subscribers and keep in touch with them over a long period of time.
Use An Email List
On a website your visitors only stick around for a few minutes. At first, when you’ve only a tiny amount of traffic, most won’t buy from your Clickbank affiliate banners. But if you give something away which is valuable, you can encourage website visitors to become email subscribers.
A niche website which attracts traffic for free is quite some endeavour. You’ll need to stick at it for some time. This is why you should be careful in choosing your topic. I once chose a topic I had no interest in once, and within 6 months I was completely burned out creating content in it. So pick something you’re going to love working on!
Build an email list and offer value to your subscribers in the way of information which leads them to your Clickbank product. Choose your product/s carefully because even with a fantastic website you can still struggle to sell a bad product. Make sure your product is carefully aligned with your blog topic so that your visitors are going to want to actually buy it!

Using paid traffic is far faster than building a niche site. Plus you’re pretty much guaranteed traffic! One of the simplest ways to do this is to use a landing page software and build a simple landing page to collect email subscribers.
Why Use Landing Pages?
Why use landing pages? Simple. Landing pages give you more opportunity to make the most from your advertising budget. If you send paid traffic to a website (like this one), your visitors are more likely to browse your site and disappear without having taken any action.
On a landing page visitors only have two choices: sign up to your email list or leave the site. This gives marketers more opportunity to “squeeze” a decision out of a visitor – this is why landing pages are also referred to a squeeze pages.

Using a landing page is much more cost effective if you’re going to use paid advertising for your affiliate business. But you will still need to make sure the pages you use conform to the regulations of the marketing platform you’re using.
Problems With Paid & Free Strategies
There’s problems with both paid advertising and free traffic. While paid marketing is fast and scalable, it comes at a cost. If you don’t make your money back from affiliate sales, you’re not going to be in business very long. Plus you also want to make a profit of course!
The best option if you’re going this route is to use a high ticket affiliate program in your sales funnel. High ticket affiliate programs give you larger commissions and this is better if you a running an advertising budget. You can access one by signing up on this website.
Free marketing strategies such as blogging have their problems too, of course. With a free strategy you don’t control your traffic. Niche websites can take some time to build and don’t rank straight away. It can take a long time and a lot of work to create content which brings in traffic completely for free.
Other Options

With low value products in your e-commerce store, paying for advertising can be prohibitive. Using a high ticket product range can give you the best option and at the lowest price if you’re willing to do the work of learning marketing yourself.

With affiliate marketing you send customers directly to products on the internet. You’re effectively a middleman for the selling of online products and services. You don’t need to handle products or deal with customers and you can automate this process to effectively make “autopilot cash”!
But how does this work and what’s the chances of actually making it a reality? Affiliate marketing has a 95% drop out rate, so you can pretty much assume it’s not easy. But top affiliates can make millions of dollars without even owning a product themselves or speaking to a customer!

Through this list you can promote and sell a high ticket product “suite” – a series of connected products which you can sell to your subscribers.
A product range is much better than a single affiliate product. With a single affiliate product you can only make a single commission from the sale. But with a product range, you can earn continuously from subscriptions and your customers can also upgrade their initial purchase and buy more valuable products from the range, at a later date.
Reinvest your earnings back into your marketing budget, and scale up globally. This is only possible through using the most profitable digital products, which will require investment.
You can of course sell any affiliate product, however, most of them don’t pay recurring or high ticket commissions which work best for scaling.
A Slower Strategy
A slower (and cheaper) strategy is through creating content online and selling affiliate products through that content. Again, email marketing is recommended but you can also sell directly from a website. I knew the idea of selling a digital product online had a huge potential; no postage fees, no handling and no manufacturing costs. But I didn’t know what it would involve. After building a website and placing my ebook sales page on it, I automated the process of the digital download with a Paypal button. It was pretty straight forward really.
I was then to learn that getting people to my website was the difficult part of this journey. I put myself on one of those “earn money online” courses to learn how to sell my own ebook. It was at this point that I discovered a far better business model known as affiliate marketing.

Why is affiliate marketing a better business model? Selling an ebook from a website can be done by anyone but you’ll only make a tiny amount and that’s if you manage to sell it in the first place. Marketers today are giving ebooks away as a means to build their email lists. So it’s getting tougher to actually sell a digital download since so many are available for free.
To get traffic to a website you can either create a tonne of content, which takes time, or pay for it with an online ad campaign. But paid advertising costs money and if you’re selling only a $10 ebook you’re going to have problems getting profitable. But an affiliate product can sell for a lot more than an ebook and you don’t even need to create the product yourself with affiliate marketing.
Affiliate marketing, if you didn’t already know, is an internet business model in which people sell other people’s products for a share of the profit. While there are a few internet based businesses which can be automated and scaled, affiliate marketing is one of the simplest models which anyone can use.
You don’t need anything to start except a laptop and internet connection. You can do affiliate marketing from anywhere and sell pretty much anything online so long as it has an affiliate program attached to it.
Autopilot Internet Business: What’s The Catch?
What’s the catch? You may be thinking if this business model is so great why isn’t everyone doing it. While many people are doing affiliate marketing it’s still relatively uncommon and most people are still working jobs based on the traditional economy.

Autopilot Internet Business: Products
Before I had any success with affiliate marketing I struggled and struggled. I would’ve quit if I wasn’t so stubborn and determined! When I eventually made a sale online, it was for peanuts! “How on Earth was I going to make this work as a main source of income?”, I thought!
The answer was in the products and services I was promoting, and how I was promoting them. I sold products from Amazon when I first became an affiliate. That’s because Amazon is the most well known affiliate program and I knew of it. I had even bought from Amazon too so I knew it was a trusted site to buy from. I sold a few products from Amazon but the commissions are so low you would barely notice the money coming in when you made a sale!
Some products from Amazon only pay as little as 1% to affiliates who refer them. So a $100 product would only pay you $1 as an affiliate! Kind of a waste of your time unless you can sell in bulk very cheaply, which is difficult to say the least.
But sell high ticket digital products and it’s a different story.
Autopilot Internet Business: Why Sell Digital Products
Back to the ebook idea and you can understand why digital products are the way forward if you want to automate an internet business. Digital products don’t require handling, manufacturing and postage costs.
These savings are passed on to the affiliate. Advertising costs, which account for the bulk of costs associated with selling of digital products online can be off-loaded to third parties (affiliates). So when an affiliate sells a digital product, they can earn between 30% and 40% of the sale price.
Digital products can be accessed from anywhere globally too which means you can sell to anyone, provided they have an internet connection and a smart phone! That’s a lot of people!
When you make more from selling affiliate products, you can afford to pay more for your advertising costs too. This opens the possibility up of selling in scale to a global audience using paid marketing strategies. With low priced physical products (which pay out tiny commissions), using paid ads is difficult because there’s such little leverage.
High Ticket Digital Products & Subscription Products
The most profitable digital products to sell are high ticket digital products. These are products which pay out $500 or more typically. You can also sell high ticket physical products too. Take a look at the products below. The Amphibious Sub-Surface Watercraft sells for $300,000! As an affiliate of this product, you can earn 8% if you manage to sell it! That’s $24,000 in commissions – plenty of room for playing with some paid advertising, unlike low value physical products from Amazon, for example.
Other good products to promote for affiliate marketers are subscription affiliate products. With a subscription product, you can earn ongoing commissions from previous sales. A good example of such a product is some kind of business tool. Autoresponders for example are needed to operate online businesses. So if you sell one you can earn ongoing commissions for life, assuming your customer maintains their subscription.
Aweber, for example is a good product for online business owners. I’ve had an Aweber subscription for years because I use it in my online business.
Promotion Methods
There’s many ways to promote affiliate products online. Shortly after I was failing to sell my ebook, I found an affiliate marketing course and started promoting other people’s products. But I had a lot of problems and the biggest one was getting traffic. Without traffic nothing can happen even with the shiniest website in the whole of the world! I wasted so much time making my websites look pretty but without actually getting anyone to see them!

Once I realised I was doing this, I started learning. I tried paid advertising and had my account shut down for not complying with the t’s and c’s. Back in the early 2000’s this was a big deal. I couldn’t get it reinstated, so started trying other marketing methods such as blogging and niche website creation. Bloggers also place advertising on their posts to generate revenue, although you’ll need a lot of traffic to make a small amount from running ads. That’s why many bloggers use the affiliate marketing model from a blog and sell products which are suitable for their visitors.
Create A YouTube Channel
YouTuber’s can build a free, organic following by regularly posting videos on YouTube. You can monetise a YouTube channel with the YouTube partner program, although you’ll need to meet the criteria for eligibility:
